Esta banda inglesa nacio en 1981 en Londres, y disuelta en 1991. En el comienzo de su carrera el grupo fue encasillado dentro del estilo denominado synth pop, y logró grandes éxitos comerciales con singles como "Today", "It's My Life", "Such A Shame" y "Living in Another World". Sin embargo, el grupo se movió en una dirección más experimental, y sus últimos álbumes son considerados por la crítica como precursores del post-rock. A pesar de que los críticos recibieron favorablemente a los últimos álbumes de la banda, los mismos tuvieron poco éxito en el mercado, lo que contribuyó a una disputa entre la banda y el sello EMI.

Los integrantes del grupo fueron el cantante y multi-instrumentista Mark Hollis, el baterista Lee Harris, el bajista Paul Webb y el teclista Simon Brenner. El productor Tim Friese-Greene tuvo un rol importante en la evolución artística del grupo, además de tocar varios instrumentos y colaborar en la composición.
